First Let's

Learn
I know what you're thinking "Learning, really? Learning is boring". But you see that's not always true. Learning doesn't have to be confined to a classroom listening to people talk. It can be exploring, making things, watching videos, and so much more.

Now let's

Conserve
According to the dictionary it means "protect (something, especially an environmentally or culturally important place or thing) from harm or destruction." You can do this by teaching people, learning about this problem you're facing, and then doing something about it.

IT'S UP TO US

Change
Change, now this is really important. You can do all the teaching and research you want but if you don't change then what's the point?

WHo are we?

The Shark Mates is comprised of mostly young adults. Our goal is to teach people about sharks and how they are threatened. Sharks are usually seen as these malicious killing machines which is completely incorrect. Join us to learn more about these misunderstood creatures and how you can help save our planet.

A few shark species

Great white shark

Great White Sharks (Carchardon carharias)  are listed as vulnerable but is almost endangered.

Hammerhead shark

Hammerhead Sharks (Sphyrnidae) are listed as endangered which means that they could become extinct.

Tiger shark

Tiger Sharks (Galeocerdo cuvier) are listed as near threatened, but we still need to protect them.
Sharks are essential to the survival of the ocean and the survival of humans. Think about the food chain: the medium fish eats the small fish, the large fish eats the medium fish, and the giant fish eats the large fish. Now look at it like this, sharks are the top of the food chain, without them, the large fish population will explode and they will eat all the medium fish. What happens if there's no medium fish? The small fish population explodes and the balance of life in the ocean is thrown off.

OUR Mission

The mission of The Shark Mates is to educate the public of the threats sharks are facing, and how we can help these misunderstood creatures survive in a world of fear.
